Sallie Mae announced a $24,000 contribution from the company’s charitable arm, The Sallie Mae Fund, to support the Food Bank of Delaware. The grant will assist local students through the Food Bank’s workforce development initiative, Delaware Food Works, which offers programs in food service, warehousing, and agriculture.

“The Food Bank of Delaware facilitates long-term solutions to the problems of hunger and poverty through community education and advocacy,” said Patricia Dobbe Beebe, president and chief executive officer, Food Bank of Delaware. “Sallie Mae’s support will help our programs reach more individuals and further develop the skills needed to provide job security and economic sustainability.”

Since 2014, Sallie Mae has contributed more than $150,000 to the Food Bank of Delaware. In addition to providing grants, the company’s employees consistently participate in various Food Bank of Delaware initiatives, including the Thanksgiving For All food drive, which helps out families in need during the holiday season. Last year, Sallie Mae employees collected 1,500 pounds worth of food.

“The Food Bank of Delaware has a proven track record of empowering and educating individuals to help create a community free of hunger,” said Martha Holler, senior vice president, Sallie Mae. “We are proud to continue our support as part of a broader commitment to giving back in the communities where our employees live and work.”
